churros

Churros are fried dough that get coated in sugar. Churros are in long star shapes and tend to be crunchy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside.  Although it is an easy dish to make, it tastes delicious!!

history

It is believed that churros were an invention of the Spanish back in the 1500’s. Some believe that it was an invention by the Spanish Shepards, who used flour, water and salt, which are the basis of the churro ingredients in which we use today, as a substitute for fresh bread. Another story also says that the pastry was inspired by the horns of the Churra sheep. Churros got their name as it derives from a sheep or goat native to the Iberian Peninsula, known as the Churra sheep. This name developed as the shape of the fried dessert dough look similar to the horns on the sheep.

reflection

My family and I loved this dessert. We have had this dessert before but this was one of the best. Due to the dough being quite savory, the chocolate and sugar coating balanced it out very nicely to suite our love for desserts. This dish was very easy and simple to make, consisting of very few ingredients, but it tasted very delicious. I will definitely be making these again. The only thing I would do differently next time would be to use a bigger piping tip, as the churros were quite thin, but it didn't affect the taste as such.

This is why my family give the Spanish churros a 9/10.
